"Assault weapons" ban to sunset in 2004: WGO joins national coalition.

Washington D.C. The unconstitutional "Assault Weapons" ban of 1994 is to sunset in September of 2004. The gun grab, which banned hundreds of rifles simply because their actions were semi-automatic or their magazines were shaped a certain way, was limited with a ten year sunset clause.

The ten years is almost up. And anti-gunners are rallying support for reauthorization of the bill. If it passes congress, president Bush has already stated he will support the ban.

And the NRA will if their past actions are of any indication -- likely accept the first "compromise" on the issue; and the anti-gunners will cheer.

So while the NRA provides political cover for Bush's continuing betrayal of gun owners and conservatives, a new coalition has formed to organize confrontationally-trained gun rights groups from around the nation to apply pressure on politicians who are contemplating a treasonous vote in favor of reauthorizing the law.

According to inside Washington, D.C. sources, the new version of the "assault weapons" ban won't just be an extension it'll be an expansion of the law, imposing even more gun controls upon gun owners.

The new coalition, called the Coalition Against the Semi-Auto Ban is a project of the National Association for Gun Rights, and consists of such groups as Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Rocky Mountain Gun Owners (RMGO). Wisconsin Gun Owners, Inc. (WGO) has also joined the coalition.

"The groups [in the coalition] all have one thing in common," said Corey Graff, Executive Director of Wisconsin Gun Owners, Inc.  "We don't fall into the liberals' trap of accepting a pre-arranged 'compromise.' Tactically speaking, we are the best the gun rights movement has got. The message to politicians opposing the wishes of this coalition is this: if you vote against us, vote for tyranny, vote for an unconstitutional gun prohibition, it'll cost you your job. Period. The election cycle will be a rather punishing experience as we methodically yank the votes out from beneath you."

Graff said Wisconsin Gun Owners, Inc. will be working with Gun Owners of America (GOA) to squelch reauthorization of the 1994 ban. "With WGO empowering its members at the state level, and GOA doing the same on a federal level, we will create a firestorm at the grass-roots level," he said. "The politics of access have never worked. It's time gun owners admit that fact, draw their line in the sand, and stand with us to get the job done effectively."
